I do not know what action the National Council of the Cherokees will take. cThe salt lies south of the southern boundary of the State of Kansasin vast superficial deposits. almost chemically pure. that are now inaccessible in consequence of the nonintercourse act thatregulates immigration into and settlement in time Indian country. Itis exceedingly important to the rapidly developing packing and other cattle interests that are growing lp in that section of the country that some teethod should be adopted by which these deposits can be utilized. and inasmuch asunder existing treaties the consent of the Government is assumed to be necessary to any action the Cherokee Nation might take. this bill is introduced and reported by the committee.
