There is a verylarge increase of business in Minnesota. and the amount I have named is absolutely necessary. The chief clerk in that oftice now can be paid but 800 under the present appropation. and there is need of more force in the office than can be obtained for the amount named in this paragraph. There has been a very 8reat increase of immigration into that State. and a very large amount of public lands is being taken up. I hope the gentleman from Tennessee .will not object to this increase. It is the only motion I have made on this bill. and I make it in goodfaith. and because it is absolutely necessary for that office.
