I know of no reason why these matters should not be taken up aud disposed of tomorrow and next day. if necessary. bit certainly tomorrow. If the Senators who have this business in charge do not value it so highly. and other Senators think these matters are not of so great importauce. then I desire to say that there is pending before the Senate a resolution relating to a subject that is of great importance to the people of soy coast. and as I believe will become important to the people of the whole United States. not far in the future. I refer to a resoluation which I introduced some time since. which I gave notice that I would bring to the attention of the Senate. treiquesting the Executive to negotiate with the government of China in order to effect such a modifieation in the Chinese treaty that there ulay be a lawful restriction upon the immigration of Chinese to this country. I desire to be heard apon that question. I desire most especially to be heard if prieafetie the Senate are in opposition to the vicws which I propose to advance. I think I can show to the Senate fl and coaclusive reasons why that course should be adopted . that our country is being tilled up by slaves and wose characters. that American civilization is beitg destroyed. that San Francisco is being changed day by day to an Asiatic city. that there are six blocks there. large blocks. in the business part of our city. which are a mere desert. occupied by the Chinese . that our white labor is being expelled. and that our young men and women are kept out of employment on account of this degrading population. I desire to col these things to the attention of the Senate. If the Senate will meet tomorrow and give me the opportunity.
