Session #43 · 1873–75

Speech #430051667

I am instructed by the Committee on Printing. to whom was referred a resolution of the Honse of Representatives to print three thousand copies of the letter of the Secretary of the Treasury in regard to the better protection of immigrants on shipboard for the use of the House. to report it back without amendment. and recomnmend its passage. The law allows each House to print extra copies of any document where the cost does not exceed $501). and if it exeeuls that cost it must be done by a concurrent resolution. This was a Iouse resolution ordering this document for the nec of tile House. but it was found upon examination that it cosu a few dollars itore than the stun limited. and it is a mere net of courtesy to pass it for the use of the House. I ask for its present consideration. The resolution vwas considered and concurred in. as follows: Resolved by the fTense of Representatives. (ths Senate cesurriny.) That three thoosand copies of tie letter of the Secretary of the Treasury of tenray 21. 1874. with. the accomlpnyiug reports. concerning the immigration service and the botter protectuon of immigrants to the United States. bo printed fo the uoof tle ouse.
