Session #115 · 2017–19

Speech #CREC-2017-06-29-pt1-PgH5308-2_t17

Two-thirds of the offenders had other family members--a spouse or others--they were trying to get back to. So, in addition to the people who are trying to enter legally, this bill massively increases penalties on people who are trying to get back to their families, many of whom are U.S. citizens. The desperation of these broken families is a direct result of our failed immigration policy. Hundreds of thousands of immigrant parents have been deported over the years, leaving their U.S. citizen children as orphans in the United States. These parents--and I understand it-- are trying to get back to their kids.
