Speech #CREC-2017-02-06-pt2-PgS855-2_t67

We have done bills together on adoption, and we have worked together on trafficking, and I am proud of the work I have done with him. We have also gone to the State of the Union together every single year, and I value his friendship. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't support him not for personal reasons, but because of some of the views he has expressed in the past and his record on the Violence Against Women Act, his views on immigration, and his views relating to voting rights. I think many of our colleagues, especially those who serve on the Judiciary Committee, feel the same way--that this wasn't personal, but we simply had a deep disagreement with some of his views on certain issues. Today I thought I would focus on the voting rights issue.
