Session #114 · 2015–17

Speech #1140082664

Speaker. I rise in strong opposition to House Resolution 639. which would allow the Speaker to file an amicus brief on behalf of the entire House of Representatives in United States v. Texas. This case deals with critical executive actions implementing immigration initiatives that will strengthen our communities. protect the dignity of families. enhance public safety and national security. raise average wages for U.S.-born workers. and grow our economy by tens of billions of dollars. Unfortunately. the majority opposes these initiatives and now seeks to influence this pending appeal before the Supreme Court. I oppose this resolution for several reasons.
