Session #114 · 2015–17

Speech #1140082508

Speaker. we are here again discussing the President and his executive actions. Back in November of 2014. President Obama announced a series of executive actions that would have provided amnesty to approximately 5 million additional illegal immigrants. Amnesty for these 5 million illegal immigrants would have been in addition to the millions who were provided amnesty under the administrations 2012 actions. The President continues to degrade the rights of American citizens and ignores the U.S. Constitution which this country was founded on. The checks and balances that our Founding Fathers established made it specifically clear that they wanted Congress to enact laws that shape our country. not the President. That is why I am supporting House Resolution House Resolution 639 will allow the Speaker of the House to submit to the U.S. Supreme Court its opinion. arguing that the Presidents executive action on amnesty for illegal immigration is unconstitutional. Congress must be able to express its arguments that the Presidents executive order on amnesty is unconstitutional so we can continue to maintain the balance of power between Congress and the President. I urge my colleagues to support House Resolution 639 so we can continue to deny the Presidents overreach of power and uphold the rights and responsibilities given to this body by the Constitution.
