We are elected and we are sworn to do what is hard and what is necessary to protect and advance the interests of the American people. Now is the time to act. Yesterday. the House voted to strengthen the security screening process for those who travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. and I was proud to cosponsor that bill. We acted together in this body to protect the American people. While reforming the Visa Waiver Program is a good thing. it is not enough. It is insufficient to the task. Keeping guns out of the hands of terrorists in this country. on American soil. is a necessary and an important step for us to take. but until we have the opportunity to vote to close this loophole. suspected terrorists in this country will continue to have and to use the opportunity to buy weapons in our country.
