Mr. Speaker. we know now that one of the terrorists who participated in the attack on Paris last Friday entered Europe by posing as a refugee. Unfortunately. we have no assurances that a similar tactic would not be successful here in the United States. The Director of the FBI has testified before Congress that there is simply no way to vet many of the Syrian refugees. We cannot allow ISIS or any terrorist group to exploit the refugee resettlement program to sneak terrorists into our country by having lax background standards. This is a real threat. ISIS has promised more attacks. and we must take that seriously. We need to. at the very least. pause and assess allowing Syrian refugees into the U.S. until we have a better screening procedure in place and focus on those that are persecuted. or even threatened with genocide. simply because of their being a religious minority.
