I rise today to recognize November as Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month. This month we recognize the contributions from Sikh Americans throughout our country who have given much to our Nation. Since the turn of the 20th century. in Californias San Joaquin Valley. the Sikh Americans have come. like immigrants from all around the world. to have a better life for themselves and their families. In addition to sharing their rich culture and values. they have made countless contributions to our economy. They are farmers. business owners. physicians. and are engaged in every walk of life in so many fields. They bring distinctive pride to the many endeavors and have a very strong work ethic. like all immigrant families. Their commitment to faith. family. and hard work is part of their rich diversity that sets our country apart from others. because we welcome immigrants. After all. we are a land of immigrants. As we strive to appreciate the contributions of all religions and cultures in our Nation. I ask my colleagues to join me in celebrating Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month.
