Mr. President. I wish to recognize the remarkable legacy of A. Alfred Taubman. an innovator whose work shaped the modern retail process for Americans and whose philanthropic endeavors have made an immeasurable impact across metro Detroit. Mr. Taubmans story is an embodiment of the American dream. A first generation American. and the son of immigrants who fled Europe in the Great Depression looking for a chance to build a better life. Mr. Taubman came from humble beginnings. From this foundation. Mr. Taubman sought to follow his father into a career as a builder and quickly became a visionary by setting new trends in the retail shopping industry. which made him one of the most successful businessmen in the State of Michigan.
