If people in this country are willing to do this. we ought to. at a minimum. accept them. I will even go further than that. The undocumented population in this country is a population that. for too long. has been ignored and shoved into the shadows. We all imagine that they are somehow different from the rest of us. but I guarantee you everybody in this room knows someone who is undocumented. and the overwhelming majority of them are lawabiding people who have jobs. raise families. contribute to our community. They deserve an opportunity to be part of the country that they have unquestionably claimed as their own. Now.
