We should be here today talking about how hard it is to get a job if you are a young person and if you have just finished college. We should be here today talking about how hard it is to buy a home if you are carrying all of this student debt. We should be talking about the need for diversity and about having a pathway to citizenship for immigration. Instead. bizarrely. we are here talking about the real possibility that the Department of Homeland Security. created out of a bipartisan coalition in the early 2000s. could shut down and leave us more vulnerable. I hope that our better angels will guide us.
