Session #114 · 2015–17

Speech #1140007182

India. Vietnam or from any one of a number of other countries. but they decided. notwithstanding from where they came. they wanted to be an American. Those naturalization ceremonies are almost like birthdaysa celebration of ones birthbecause in a way it is a birthday. It is a day when they become proud Americans. As Americans we believe in the benefits of legal immigration because in many cases it was our parents. grandparents or great -grandparents who came here from another country in search of the American dreama better place to live. work. and raise a family. Sadly. the President of the United States has made it clear his administration is willing to take the people who played by the rules and applied for immigration and legal status to become an American citizen and kick them to the back of the line. This President has kicked the people who played by the rules to the back of the line. and he has moved people who did not play by the rules to the front of the line. That is fundamentally unfair.
