Not everyone got what they wanted. but the bill funded the Department at levels that would ensure the Department can fulfill its mission to secure the homeland. Then. unfortunately. politics came into play. Some House Republicans demanded the homeland bill be removed from the larger budget because of immigration issues. and now the entire Department is funded on a shortterm basis through February 27. Now we face a fundamental question: Are we going to put the country at risk because of an ideological disagreement? Since Senator MIKULSKI and Congressman ROGERS reached that agreement in December. we have seen many threats to our Nation and to our allies.
