I am in opposition to this amendment and to others who play politics with the security and safety of America. Madam Chair. this bill plays politics with the security and safety of America while holding up vital investments that will create jobs. The House GOP refused to take action on immigration reform last year. and now theyre trying to make up for that mistake by attaching poison pill amendments to the bill that funds homeland security. They accuse the President of being lawless. but they know the real problem is their own failure to offer constructive solutions to fix our immigration system. We should be debating comprehensive immigration reform. not hosting a politically motivated charade that will harm our ability to deter. detect. and defend from a terrorist attack. This could not be more poorly timed. Last week our strong ally.
