Mr. President. I thank my colleague for talking about some of the legislation that was announced yesterday in a press conference15 pieces of legislation. offered by 12 Senators. that they believe would help create a lawful system of immigration and that they would like to discuss and debate and vote on this year. My friend. the Democratic leader. said he didnt like it. apparently because a number of those Senators gathered and announced at a press conference their ideas. He called that "great fanfare. a press event." with a little bit of a sniff. I think. And then he said these words: "I hope the American public sees it for what it is." That kind of hurt my feelings.
