Session #110 · 2007–09

Speech #1100135025

There have been shocking events that few of us expected to see in Kenya. protesters shot by police. gangs with machetes butchering innocents. a crowd of people. including women and children. burned alive in a church. Two opposition parliamentarians. as Mr. PAYNE just pointed out. have been gunned down since the violence began. Now some 300.000 people have fled their homes. have fled their neighbors. and remain displaced. They are virtual refugees within their own country. Aid workers tell us that about 80.000 of these internally displaced people are children under the age of 5. The priority for everyone has to be to stop the violence and to end the killing.
