Our Senate bill included $1 billion in emergency funding to reimburse NASA for the costs of returning the space shuttle to flight after the Columbia accident. This funding had bipartisan support in the Senate. but the House would not agree to it. The consequence will be a continued gap in time between shuttle retirement and development of our new vehicle. Second. I included a provision in our Senate bill to extend the H2B returning worker exemption. This was a simple 1year extension of current law. On a bipartisan basis. the Senate wanted to protect small and seasonal businesses from going bankrupt.
