Today. only 3.000 personnel are on Operation Jump Start orders. and. of those. only 2.300 are actually at the border. So already there has been a drawdown of more than half of the National Guard personnel. and not communicating that to the American people is leaving us in a difficult situation. I suggest. The National Guard was supposed to fill the gap until 6.000 new Border Patrol agents could be recruited. hired. trained. and stationed at the border. That goal has only been accomplished halfway. Only 3.000 new agents have joined the 1.000 who were on the border when President Bush announced Operation Jump Start.
