I must oppose this bill today. but I have got to make it clear that I do support childrens health insurance. I believe this bill flat misses the mark. While wellintentioned. this legislation is a massive expansion of a governmentrun healthcare program that takes resources away from the very children it was meant to help. As ranking member of the Social Security Subcommittee on Ways and Means. I am deeply disturbed by the part of this bill that makes it easier for illegal immigrants to be covered under this program. In the last Congress. Republicans worked hard to ensure that everyone in this childrens health program are really U.S. citizens.
