I have been working on this issue for a long time. both as past chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee and as past chairman of the Commerce. State. Justice Appropriations Subcommittee in the Appropriations Committee. as have Senator COCHRAN and Senator BYRD. There has been a strong commitment on the part of the Appropriations Committee to accomplish these goals. But there has always been additional resources needed in order to fully fund border security. Now. with this amendment. we will actually put in place those additional resources. I congratulate the Senator from South Carolina for bringing this process to closure.
