This bill would go a long way in fixing that. Certainly. every aspect of the bill. I believe. is a positive step in returning us to a lawful system of immigration in America. One reason actually funding this project. these efforts. through this bill and through emergency spending is so important is because we have a history of promising things and not doing them. Not this year but last year the bill came forward in the Judiciary Committee to comprehensively reform immigration. I realized we had a shortage of border enforcement officers. Border Patrol. and I offered an amendment to do that as part of that authorization bill. that immigration reform bill. It was readily accepted. I offered an amendment that added bed spaces. and it was readily accepted. because I knew we needed more if we were going to be effective.
