President. this amendment tries to eliminate the 21212 provisions in this bill. The underlying bill says if a guest worker comes here. they can work for 2 years. they are kicked out for a year. they can come back. work for two more. they are kicked out for a year. they can come back work for two more. then they are kicked out for good. What my amendment does is to say: Lets bring them here for 2 years. allow them to renew their visa twice. so that they would be here a maximum of 6 years. This makes a ]ot more sense for employers. for American workers who are competing for these jobs. for the guest workers themselves. This has the support of the business community. the unions. the Catholic bishops.
