That presentation was made to me. I thought it was pretty good. I thought it was a much better framework for immigration than last years bill. I said repeatedly in recent weeks that we had a framework superior to last years bill that could actually lead us to something important. Unfortunately. the four main principles that were so often talked aboutthe trigger. a temporary worker program. the elimination of chain migration. and the creation of a merit system and no amnesty for the illegal alien populationare insufficiently effectuated by this legislation. They have the appearance of doing those things and maybe in a few areas improve over current law or last years bill. but they dont effectively carry it out. So I am worried about that situation. I am worried that. yes. our supporters say: We have problems with the bill. but overall it is good. If we have problems with the bill. lets look at those problems. lets see if they can be fixed. and lets make a better bill. Lets not pass a bill that we tell the American people is going to fix the immigration problem in America when it has loopholes and weaknesses that will not work and will not accomplish what we are promisingwhat some are promisingwill occur if it is passed. I worry when people say they disagree with large portions of the bill. yet they are for it. Lets talk about some of the principles that were asserted.
