We are going to tell those illegal aliens who are here working: If you want to take advantage of this law. you have to come forward and turn yourself in. and the United States will then begin to work with you on a path toward giving you a document that you can carry with you. that you can use to obtain work. and you will be legal 4 years at a time. The bill also says after 8 years of that process. you will have an opportunity to choose. if you want. to move in the direction of becoming a citizen. But you still have at least 5 years to wait. and you must return to your home country and file your application.
