Session #110 · 2007–09

Speech #1100050498

I thank Senator SEssIoNs and thank him for his input and insight into what has gone on for the last 8 weeks or 10 weeks. I thank the Senator for his explanation today on his perception of what is in this bill. 1 wish to add a few other comments. and I do have a couple charts that are on their way down to the Chamber. I rise to address some of the concerns I have about last weeks socalled immigration compromise and the way it is being shovedor trying to be shovedthrough the Senate this week. Last weeks socalled immigration agreement is not a compromise in the traditional sense of the word. The proposal was written in secret by a small group of Senators and our current administration. This bill may not be a compromise. but it is compromising to this countrys economy. national security. and the very foundation as a democracy rooted in the rule of law.
