consists of area law enforcement officers from the United States and Canada. including cooperation with county and local police officers. Customs and Border Protection agents. the Coast Guard and Canadian border officers and police officers. The officers involved in this IBET have been unanimous in telling me how much IBET has improved their ability to police the border and make our homeland more safe and secure. I am concerned. however. that the potential of the IBET has not been fully realized at Sault Ste. Marie and other sites. The Department of Homeland Security has not assigned a fulltime officer to monitor and lead the IBET. instead defining IBET as "collateral duty" for an officer who already has a fulltime job.
