Mr. Speaker. to talk about an issue that is the number one issue as I go around western Iowa and Iowa and other places in the country and have meetings with individuals. town halltype meetings. Whenever a group of people come together. if you ask questions. stand and listen. eventually the subject of immigration will come up. And it has been the most intensely watched subject and discussed subject perhaps over the last 3 years or a little more. Mr. Speaker. I recall when President Bush gave his speech that laid out his vision on the immigration reform. and I believe the date was January 6 of 2004. I am not off by more than a day. if that. And that speech started us down this path and this Nation of having an open dialogue about what kind of a Nation we are and what kind of a Nation we are to become.
