Dairy farmers in Vermont. citrus growers in Florida. others throughout the country. have complained about the labor shortage and the uncertainty it creates for the future. The Farm Credit Associations of New York estimate that if the labor shortage continues there. New York State will lose $195 million in value of agricultural production and over 200.000 acres in production over the next 24 months. The American Farm Bureau Federation estimates that if agriculture loses its migrant labor force. the national production loss in fruits and vegetables will be between $5 billion and $9 billion a year.
