I strongly believe that this is a reasonable amendment that ensures that DHS has the flexibility it needs to alter this proposal if it doesnt advance our overall security strategy. Let me be clear. I believe we should do what it takes to secure our borders. I have consistently worked to secure increased funding for vehicle barriers. surveillance equipment. and additional Border Patrol agents. But I also believe we should do it in the most effective way. both from a security standpoint and in terms of costs. I also intended to offer an amendment that would have provided border law enforcement agencies with much needed relief in addressing borderrelated criminal activities.
