In our group. Congressman SODREL. the gentleman from Indiana. Congressman PRICE from Georgia and myself. we watched agents catch an individual trying to bring close to 400 pounds of marijuana into this country. The reason why. we were told by Customs and Border Patrol agents. that he chose 400 pounds was because in that particular area. in that particular county. there would be no prosecution for anything less than 500 pounds. So he was playing it safe. gaming the system. if you will. While some areas prosecute for 5 pounds. others will not budge for anything under 500. So we are addressing this problem of smuggling.
