Mr. Chairman. I thank the distinguished gentleman for yielding. Mr. Chairman. I think the focus of the debate has gone awry. You are right. It is not an immigration issue. It is a citizen issue. But I do want to tell my colleagues that many people have fled persecution. sought asylum. and then become citizens. They come as adults. they come as elderly persons. but they are now citizens. They have been fleeing the persecution of oppression. and they come here for hope. and they come for a dream of opportunity. When they become citizens. this will simply allow them to partake of that dream. and that is to vote.
