Let me state that my amendment is not about immigration. intimidation or discrimination. It is about assimilation. This is also an amendment about States rights. States or political subdivisions can provide voting assistance in other languages if they want to. but I do not believe this is good for the United States to mandate. The United States of America is a Nation of immigrants. We are the original melting pot. Importantly. though. the first motto of the United States of America was E pluribus unum: "Out of many. one." This motto symbolizes the integration of the 13 independent colonies into one united country. The motto assumed even further meaning as Americans welcomed ever more immigrants from many lands to our shores. And one of the most unifying elements of one Nation is a common language. Since our Nations founding. there have been people who would literally suffer life and limb to be an American citizen.
