Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090138998

Now I would like to focus on the positive in this bill. especially measures with which I was personally involved. This legislation includes the DREAM Act. a narrowlytailored. bipartisan measure that I sponsored with Senator HAGEL and Senator LUGAR. The DREAM Act would give undocumented students the chance to become permanent residents if they came here as children. are longterm U.S. residents. have good moral character. and attend college or enlist in the military for at least 2 years. Currently our immigration laws prevent thousands of young people from pursuing their dreams and fully contributing to our Nations future. They are honorroll students. star athletes. talented artists. valedictorians. and aspiring teachers and doctors. These young people have lived in this country for most of their lives.
