But I have to reluctantly oppose his amendment which would sunset the temporary worker program. While his amendment is wellintentioned. the amendment would undermine the carefully crafted compromise that has been struck in the underlying bill. We know that one of the fundamental causes of undocumented immigration is that too few visas exist to meet employers demands for shortterm immigrant labor. The basic logic of this bill is to fix our broken immigration system. Earned legalization for those already here is an important part of the solution. But on its own. legalization will not solve the problem of future flow.
