Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090137302

That is the direction we are heading in as a country. not going backwards. not retreating. and not creating obstacles and hurdles to cast those ballots. That. unfortunately. would be the outcome if the McConnell amendment were adopted. Every major civil rights organization. every leading organization defending the disabled and the elderly are opposed to this amendment and are very worried about what it could mean if it were adopted. So I urge my colleagues. at this early hour in the morning: Please. when you come here. this is not the place for this amendment on an immigration bill. There is a time and opportunity to go back and revisit election issues. I hope we do that at some point.
