Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090135553

We dont eliminate the blue card. You still have the blue card. The folks who hire blue card workers under the current bill are going to have an advantage over those employers. those farmers who have been legal and utilized H2A and who want to utilize H2A in the future. It is a very skewed way of arriving at a wage rate that we both agree upon. The question is. How do you get from today. from May 22. 2006. to a prevailing wage rate? I say lets do it now. What the underlying bill says is lets take 35.000 or 40.000 workers who are here currently under H2A. and lets allow them get to a prevailing wage rate down the road. within some certain period of time. But lets take this other 1.5 million and lets keep them depressed. Lets let farmers who hire that blue card worker continue.
