Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090133407

I will have some. and perhaps we can get back to where we should be and that is dealing with the central question of our countrys border. protect us first against terrorism. and. second. to enforce the quotas we have that allow people to come into this country legally. We have quotas with which we accomplish that. Seal this countrys border so we have border protection and an orderly flow of people in and out of this country. and. second. enforce standards against employers that routinely and knowingly hire illegal workers. I was here when we passed SimpsonMazzoli. In fact. I went back and reread some of the debate on the floor of the Senate and House. What was said was we are fixing immigration. Back then. there really was amnesty. Amnesty was given to a good number of millions of illegal immigrants. We said to employers: Dont you dare hire illegal workers. If people come into this country illegally to take Americans jobs. dont you dare hire them.
