I was here when we passed SimpsonMazzoli. In fact. I went back and reread some of the debate on the floor of the Senate and House. What was said was we are fixing immigration. Back then. there really was amnesty. Amnesty was given to a good number of millions of illegal immigrants. We said to employers: Dont you dare hire illegal workers. If people come into this country illegally to take Americans jobs. dont you dare hire them.
