The 370 miles of fencing that we are talking about. plus barriers for vehicle traffic in a larger amount. has the support of Secretary of Homeland Security Chertoff and the administration. They believe it is a good expenditure. and they are prepared to help find the money to fund it because it will save money in the long run. It is a onetime expenditure and will be a multiplier of the effectiveness of every single Border Patrol agent. As we have heard from Senators CORNYN and KYL. who have visited the border on a regular basis. we have borders that run right through the middle of towns and communities. How could we possibly put enough agents at every corner. every street to guard it?
