In other words. you catch 1.1 million people. you send people back home more or less immediately who come from Mexico. a contiguous nation. But if they come from other countries. then we have to make arrangements to send folks back where they came from. That requires them to be detained somewhere for a while. With only 20.000 detention beds. and 250.000. roughly. people coming from countries other than Mexico last year alone. you can see the problem. So people are released on their own recognizance and asked to come back for their deportation hearing 30 days hence. And guess what. Most of them do not show up.
