The Judiciary Committee had a hearing and had four witnesses testify. Without going Into their testimony in great detailit is all a matter of recordthe net conclusions were that there would not be a significant impact in the loss of American jobs. It is frequently said that the immigrants handle jobs that Americans do not want. As a generalization. that is true. but not universally true. We have had considerable suggestions and contentions by Senators from agricultural States about the indispensable nature of immigrant workers. Anecdotally. I have many from my home State come to me and tell me about the need for agricultural workers.
