Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090127590

If the previous question is defeated. I will amend the rules so the House can vote on important amendments offered by Homeland Security Ranking Member THOMPSON and Representative LANGEVIN to increase security at our Nations ports. Rules Committee Republicans rejected these amendments when we met last night. The amendment would add 1.600 new Customs and Border Protection Officers at our Nations ports. We cannot conduct more container inspections at our ports if we do not have more people. The goal of the Langevin amendment is to make sure that these Customs officials working in our ports are using the best available technology.
