I rise today to express my opposition to the amendment put forward by Senator GREGG to the emergency supplemental appropriations billan amendment to provide additional funding for border security at the expense of the U.S. Armed Forces. While I certainly support the goal of providing an additional $1.9 billion to secure our Nations borders. it is completely unconscionable to cut funding for our military men and women at a time when they are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Let me explain how Senator GREGGS amendment would hurt our military. The Gregg amendment cuts Department of Defense programs included in this bill.
