Mr. President. over the last hour or two on the floor of the Senate there has been a procedural move by some Senators on the other side of the aisle which reduces the likelihood of a compromise on the immigration bill. I sincerely hope it doesnt end this effort because I think there are people of good faith on both sides of the aisle still trying to find a way to pass this important piece of legislation. I want to give special credit on the Republican side of the aisle to Senator MARTINEZ. who I believe is working as hard as any person can to find the right language that preserves the basic principles of the Specter substitute. the bipartisan bill which passed the Senate Judiciary Committee.
