Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090121536

The first had to do with crimes. but I will be happy to leave that conversation and move to the absconders. as I said. "Absconders" is the word that is used to describe those people who have been ordered by a judge to leave the country because of something they have donemore than simply overstaying a visaand have refused to do that. In other words. they have already demonstrated an unwillingness to comply with an order to leave the country. Obviously. part of the enforcement of all of this legislation depends upon our ability to enforce the law for people who are unwilling to comply with the laws terms. If someone has already demonstrated an unwillingness do that. it seems to me they should not be eligible. And let me go on to say that the suggestion that a simple visa overstayer is caught up in this is not truenot true.
