Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090118604

Act would address the situation of many young people. It would permit undocumented students to become permanent residents if they came here as children. if they are longterm U.S. residents. if they have good moral character. and attend college or enlist in our military for at least 2 years. During the 108th Congress. the Senate Judiciary Committee marked up this DREAM Act. and it was voted out by a vote of 16 to 3. a strong bipartisan vote. Compromises and changes were made. It is unfortunate that the Senator from Alabama. when he spoke about the DREAM Act earlier. did not make reference to the current version of the law.
