Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090118509

Act would eliminate this provision and allow illegal alien college and university students to be eligible for inState tuition without affording outofState students the same opportunity. Thus. the University of Alabama could offer inState tuition to illegal alien students while requiring citizens residing in Mississippi to pay a much higher tuition rate. In fact. that is being done probably in violation of law in some areas right now. Allowing all the illegal aliens enrolled in college to receive inState tuition rates means that while American citizens from the 49 other States have to pay outofState tuition rates to send their kids to the University of Alabama or Virginia. people who have illegally immigrated into this country might not. OutofState tuition rates range from 2 to 31/2 times what inState tuition rates are. It has always struck me that one of the things you do to encourage people to come here legally and abide by the law. is not give benefits to those who come illegally.
