Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090112600

So the IRS then cannot levy interest and penalties against the employer if they happen to hire someone that is illegal and maybe the instant check could potentially have a mistake in it. So we set this up with the right kind of structure. We bring in the IRS to do a good task. to help enforce our immigration laws. We direct the IRS then to make those kind of reports to Immigration and Customs Enforcement so that once there is a determination made that an employer was. I will say. willfully hiring illegals. then Immigration and Customs Enforcement can come in and levy employer sanctions under those cases. So the risk could be significantly greater than another $6 an hour on top of your $10 an hour. but what it does is it puts enforcement in place where enforcement did not exist before. It brings a new agency in that has demonstrated a willingness to enforce Federal law.
